Cape Town International Airport is South Africa's second largest
airport and the Western Cape is one of this country's major tourist
destinations. The airport has seen strong and consistent growth
in both passenger volumes and aircraft movements since 1994, resulting
in an increasing demand for the constant upgrading of services and
facilities. Aircraft movements now exceed 60,000 per annum. Projections
see the total number of passengers at Cape Town International increasing
from 5 million in 2003, to 6.5 million by the year 2004, and to
14 million by 2015. Cargo throughput at the airport has also increased
substantially and shows continued growth. Travelling to and from the Airport Situated 30 minutes out of Cape Town, it is essential that reliable transport is secured to reach your destination. The more expensive option would be the airport express bus which will provide transport to anywhere in the peninsula and the most expensive option is a metered taxi. Public Transport In and around Cape Town you will find a number of public transport
options. The most common is the mini-bus taxi. The mini-bus taxi
is the cheapest form of public transport but also rates as one of
the most dangerous due to violence amongst the various taxi companies.
A standard metered taxi is the most expensive at about R10 per kilometer
but is also one of the safest forms of public transport. You can
call one of the various taxi companies, Unicab (448 1720), Marine
Taxi Hire (4340434) and Sea Point Taxis (434 4444) and arrange for
them to pick you up.
